It is during pregnancy week 23; the infant is still making remarkable changes. Unborn’s skin is yet quite reddish and highly wrinkled by the end of pregnancy week 23. The infant can often hear brassy noises in the uterus from now on as the mother continues her pregnancy week by week. So, mother needs not be surprised if her infant seems to move around a little while she is vacuuming or in an environment wherein there are loud noises.

In the 23rd week of pregnancy, the bones located in the infant's middle ear are begun to form and the infant is continued filling out and look more and more proportional. If the infant were born this week, there are little chances that it would survive, however it is desired that the infant delay and have a number of weeks more inside the womb! Many women begin to wonder what may happen if the baby is born premature. An infant born between 23 and 24 weeks will have 10 to 70 percent chances of survival. It really depends upon a number of factors that have to be calculated in consideration.

The babies those are born weighing one pound beat the odds and keep on to live a averagely normal life, however, others regrettably die because of major and severe complications. The smaller babies might survive but grow up with certain mental or motor disabilities. This is again due to their extreme premature physical and mental development.

Each day passes, the infant stays in the uterus increases the survival rate approximately three per cent during the week 23rd and 26th. Generally after pregnancy week 26 the survival rate bangs to 80-90 percent! There are plenty of things that can impact on infant’s chances of survival if it is born premature. If the membranes get ruptured prior to 24 weeks the infant has less chances as compared to if they remain intact. Male infants are believed to be more at risks since they are less mature as compared to female infants when born premature. Other ailments such as diabetes or hypertension can place added stress on the infant during delivery that increases the chances of complications.

On the other hand, mother’s womb is continuing to grow and expand at pregnancy week 23, and by now is about 1.5”above the umbilicus. The mother is probably feeling less and more graceless during 23 weeks of pregnancy as her abdomen continues to grow. The infant has lots of room for moving in the womb now, so its movements are likely to be quite stronger at this point. The mother probably feels lots of flickering and flopping, and maybe even observes the abdomen moving about!
