If you are a woman who is expecting to be, are planning on having little cutie pie or know someone who is going to deliver a baby, a pregnancy due date calculator is surely something one should look for. There are many kinds of different things that can inform you, and they are just as fun as they are instructive.

The woman can find a lot of them online for free, or she can go to some local bookstore and pick any book suggesting the same. The kind of information she can get from a pregnancy due date calculator differs depending upon what she uses, but when the woman plugs in the first day of her last menstrual period, many will inform the basic stuff. For instance, more than one pregnancy due date calculator will inform her conception date and it is quite simple, but she needs that later as she starts taking gender quizzes and sharing other mom to be entertainment.

Also, the woman learns the time when her baby is at the greatest risks for birth defects. This is generally in the range of 5-10 weeks. Other useful tit-bits include when her baby's fetal organs have started to get formed, when her baby's major organs are built and the date at which the risks for miscarriage decrease.

Pregnancy comes along with a multitude of guessing games such as assuming the gender of the baby; guessing how the baby will look like; assuming the nature of the delivery and when the big day will really arrive. The pregnancy due date calculated with a large number of formulas is surely not set in stone. But though, calculating the pregnancy due date is still required and exciting.

Surprising to many of the pregnant women is the fact that there are generally quite a number of different ways for calculating the pregnancy due date. The fact is that what is an accepted formula in some cultures doesn’t hold up in other. The woman may find a dizzying array of cultural and ethnic particular practices that differ from region to region.

The most accurate technique to determine a pregnancy due date is when the woman learns the day of conception. This will rarely happen as normally due dates are decided by using the 1st day of the woman’s last menstrual period. Normally the total pregnancy time is added to the 1st day of the LMP deducting 2 weeks.

The example for pregnancy due date:

The total gestation time is about 40 weeks (9 months). If the woman’s LMP (last menstrual period) were on October 1st, she would deduct three months to that date and the date she has then would be July 1st and then she takes away 2 weeks from this date and she has June 15th. This is the NEXT year’s due date for her. So if it LMP was in the year of 2007, her pregnancy due date would be June 15 th in the year 2008. Many of the healthcare experts called this as simple LMP (last menstrual period) technique. Two weeks are taken away from the 40 weeks since it is believed that the women can ovulate within 2 weeks of their last menstrual period.

Another interesting technique to calculate the pregnancy due date is called Naegle’s Rule. Just like LMP, Naegle’s Rule also considers the first day of woman’s last period.

Calculate the 1st day of your last period then count back 3 months from that day and finally add 7 days. This is another easy way to calculate the pregnancy due date. Ultrasounds are latest technique that gives an expecting mother her due date. Ultrasound technicians use the ultrasound machine for determining the baby’s age by looking at different bodily parts and organs.

There are also plenty of online websites for expectant women that can tell pregnancy due date calculators. Such calculators often use the LMP method by asking woman putting in the first day of her last period and calculating the due date since then. The calculator not only gives the mothers a due date to anticipate, but also used for marking the different milestones of gestational period.
