Teens are always worried about being fashionable, and it is no different when it comes to teen party dress. Whether it is a formal gown for a school dance or a new outfit for a party across town, teens will do their best to dress with the intent to impress and be different.
When planning a teen party, dress should be considered. If the party is going to be themed, including the type of dress on the invitation is helpful to the guests, as it helps them plan what to wear for the event. Even if it is just a casual party, including some sort of dress code, so that guests will have a sense of the appropriate attire to wear. State within the invitation whether it is a costume party or a color theme party, so that guests don’t feel inappropriately dressed for the occasion.
Some basic guidelines to dressing for a teen party are:
• Consider the weather. If it is going to be an outdoor event, wear clothing that is appropriate for that time of year. It is best not to wear a wool dress in the middle of summertime!
• Be comfortable! There is nothing worse than being uncomfortable for the sake of fashion. Choose an outfit that is appropriate and suitable for age, frame and environment.
• Design your outfit by the theme of the party. If the party is Hawaiian, choose an outfit with a floral tone, or go to the extreme and find a hula skirt.
• Be creative! If it is a costume party, think outside the party store costume package. Design your own original costume and make a statement. If you do decide to rent or purchase a costume from a store, give yourself time to try it on, so that at the last minute, you’re not frantic about what to wear.
It is advisable to decide on an outfit before the event, preferably try it on and see how it works before the night of the party. Pick an afternoon with friends to try different outfits on and decide which outfit is the most flattering and most appropriate dress for the evening. Dressing for a teen party, no matter how casual the event, is important. Each event allows the teen to express and individualize themselves within the group.
