With the advent of such reality shows showcasing the modern teen birthday party, teens today are becoming more creative and more demanding on the types of decorations for their parties. No longer are streamers and a sound system appropriate. Party goers want live disc jockeys, limousines, and spectacular teen party decorations to wow their party guests.
Most parties’ center around a central theme, and depending upon the teenager, it can range from simple color themes to out of this world, over the top fantasies. While most families can’t afford the luxuries seen on reality shows with extreme budget, they are becoming more expansive in their creative choices.
Teen party decorations and party themes can come in several forms:
• Color themes – Teens can choose a simple color theme for their party, much like celebrities do for their parties, requesting all invitees to wear only white. Teens can request their invitees to do something similar, such as wear only black and white, and then match the decorations. Decorations can either be all black, all white, a combination or for dramatic effect, a completely different color like red, so that the teens stand out. Choosing a color themed party maybe one of the simplest ways to decorate a party.
• Costume themes – A more intriguing approach to teen party decorations is to hold a costumed party, picking a single theme for the decorations to coordinate with the costumes. Much like the costume ball, teens can dress like literary, historical, movie and everyday couples. With a couples theme, the decorations can reflect the same dyadic feel, by having two of everything together. Even pictures of famous couples can be hung on the walls and used as place cards on the table.
• Cultural themes – Cultural themes tend to reflect the teens own heritage and identity. A teen can hold an Arabian nights themed party, decorating the rooms in bright, bold colors. Teens can chose to decorate their parties with a culture they appreciate or the culture from which they come, incorporating the customs and beliefs of that culture directly into the planning and decorations.
As teens become worldlier and visit more places via the Internet, party decorations will continue to expand horizons and dazzle guests. The first step is to simply decide what direction the decorations are going to go.
