Take your retiree somewhere related to their favorite pastime. What hobbies are they interested in, but have not had time for? Throw a golf party on the greens of a local golf course or rent space at the stadium and have a football party. Maybe go somewhere they have always wanted. Plan ahead for a beach party or an “I’m done and out of here” party. Whatever the interests of your retiree, try to implement them as much as possible. This is their time to relax and enjoy a life well spent.
Once your theme has been determined you can think of decorations and festivities.
Remember this is a celebration of a life’s work. Do a little research and get your decorations from his old career. Hang or place letters of accomplishment around for everyone to see and talk about. Keep your retiree in focus without making your guests bored by keeping the night interactive. Have speakers tell stories about your retiree and really play it up. Even a well thought out “roast” where everyone picks on your retiree could be a great way to keep everyone involved. Just keep it nice and don’t let it get out of hand, unless of course that is what the retiree would enjoy, then spice it up and let him have it!
Have a constant theme surrounding your retiree. Any nice decorations would do, but try to go the extra mile and do something special. Have a “break out” party that starts with office decorations and ends up in retirement heaven. Let the desks and papers be blown away and open up to the retiree’s new life. The possibilities are endless. Just make sure the theme is relevant to your retiree and they will be more than pleased with your chosen retirement party theme.
