Baby strollers have simplified travelling, shopping, walking around the neighborhood and family outings for parents. Markets these days are flooded with a variety of strollers that suit various needs of different people. It is important to know the exact purpose for which you need a stroller and then select one.
The different types of strollers available are:
Carriage Stroller
This is a traditional style stroller which usually has a seat back that can recline fully. The new models have a boot that prevents babies from sliding through the leg openings when the seat is fully reclined.
Umbrella Stroller
This is an ideal choice if you travel a lot as it can be folded easily and occupies little trunk space. It is inexpensive, light weight, has curved handles and offers compact basic transportation.
Standard Stroller
These are heavier than umbrella strollers but offer some special features like larger seats and wheels, more storage space, in-built music system and ergonomic handles. For travelers its variants include ones that can fold but they occupy large trunk space. They are also harder to maneuver in crowded places.
Jogging strollers
These are meant for parents who like to go for jogging or brisk walking with their babies. They have features like large and sturdy wheels, sleek frames, hand grip brakes and can perform well on almost all terrains. However, they are not suitable for infants below six months and cannot be used for daily activities like shopping etc.
Car travel systems
These are strollers that allow you to attach infant car seat to the stroller. You can attach and detach the seat from the car without disturbing your baby sleeping in it.
Side-by-side
These strollers are for parents of twins or who have children of close age. The seats are fixed next to each other on a large frame. Being wider they are tough to get around with in tight spaces.
While choosing a baby stroller you should check its stability, its maneuverability around the corners and see if it remains upright with a diaper bag hanging on its side. Also check its harness, a five-point harness that goes over the infant’s shoulder is the best. Taller parents should ensure that the handle positions are adjustable.
