Baby sleeping bags are an excellent innovation in the field of baby bedding. These are specially designed sleeping bags meant to keep your baby secure, warm and comfortable at night. In some countries like France parents use baby sleeping bags from the day their baby is born, while in others like England parents wait until the babies are four months old too use these bags.
Benefits of Using Baby Sleeping Bags
Babies are likely to kick off their covers at night. This can leave them cold and they may wake up time and again at night. Moreover, a baby could go down inside the blanket and suffocate leading to Sudden Infant Death Syndrome.
Baby sleeping bags are safe on both these counts. Buying a size that fits your baby well will allow her to kick its legs freely without leaving her uncovered. A perfect size will also prevent your baby from sliding down inside the bag.
Babies form sleep patterns of sleeping, waking up and demanding a feed after they turn four months or so. Sleeping bag will reinforce this sleep pattern as the baby will feel warm when she wakes up and will go back to sleep quickly.
Baby sleeping bags will make it easier for your baby to adjust to change from a small basket to a big cot. It will prevent your baby from scratching its itchy eczema.
Another advantage of sleeping bags is that even if you go holidaying with your baby, it’ll have at least one familiar environment i.e. its sleeping bag where it can sleep safe and sound.
Suggestions on buying and using sleeping bags
Sleeping bags are given TOG rating according to their warmth level. In winters you can go for bags with higher rating between 4-2.2 TOG and for summers choose a lower TOG rating bag.
Avoid buying a sleeping bag which is quilted as it can make things very hot for your baby. Instead throw a sheet on the sleeping bag if you feel the temperature’s fallen too low.
Choose a sleeping bag which has deep sleeve holes to allow the air to circulate within. This will keep the temperature inside the sleeping bag regulated.
You can dress up your baby in a cotton night suit or a simple T-shirt and pajamas before tucking her inside the sleeping bag.
