Baby’s crib is a place where your newborn will spend most of his\her time after birth. Therefore, selecting the right crib that is safe, secure and comfortable for your baby and that fits your budget as well is extremely important.
Types of Baby Crib
Standard Crib
A conventional crib comes with one or two drop sides, making it easy to put the baby in and to take her out. These cribs are quiet cheap and will serve your baby until she turns two.
Convertible Crib
It comes in two variants- the 3-in-1 crib and the lifetime crib. While the 3-in-1 variant can be converted from a crib to a toddler bed to a day bed, the lifetime crib can be converted into a full-size bed and can be used till your child’s teens. Of course it calls for a larger investment but they turn out cheaper in the long run. Some of these cribs come with storage drawers as well.
Round Baby Cribs
These are very trendy and occupy lesser space than a traditional crib. These cribs come with a higher price tag.
Canopy Cribs
These are very popular among parents these days mainly because of their ‘fairytale’ appearance. They don’t have any extra functional feature, but they are very expensive because of the creative designing that goes in to making them attractive.
Used Baby Crib
You may be tempted to buy a second-hand crib because it fits your budget perfectly. But, while purchasing one there are various safety guidelines that you must follow.
- The distance between crib slats should not exceed 2-3\8 inches.
- The minimum height of the raised sides of the crib should be 26 inches.
- The minimum height of the dropped sides should be 9 inches.
- Teething rail should be installed to prevent your baby from chewing the wood.
- Ensure that there is no loose or peeling paint, rough corners, edges or splinters.
To make your baby’s crib extremely safe buy a mattress that connects the crib’s sides securely.
