There are a lot of types of alcoholic beverages available for us to try. Depending on the particular kind and form of alcoholic beverage, they all have different amounts of alcohol in them and different qualities to them.
The basic types of alcoholic beverages include beer, wine and liquor. Beer is a malt beverage made from hops, malt and barley and typically has an alcoholic content within the 3.2-6.0% range for a 12-ounce serving. It comes in a variety of different flavors and includes different categories such as stouts, lagers and ales. They are often served on-tap at most bars and in the can and bottle.
Wine is a type of alcohol that has been around for many centuries and continues to grow in popularity. Wine typically has an alcoholic content of 11-16% per six ounce serving. There are many different flavors and categories of wine, and to any wine lover there is a whole world of knowledge that goes along with wine tasting, storage and qualities. Wine can be separated into two basic groups of red and white, with many sub-groups from those including dry and sweet just to name a couple.
Depending on your palate for wine, some people prefer a sweet, white wine while others prefer a dry, red wine. Some wines are served chilled and others are served warm. The maturity and aging processes of the wines are also varied and the different types of wines are determined by the grapes used to make them.
Liquor is a broad term for strong alcohol including gin, vodka and scotch, along with others. The alcohol content of liquor can vary greatly depending on the kind and can range from 18 –100% alcohol per volume and is measured by the ounce serving. Liquor is usually used in making cocktails such as mixed drinks, martinis and margaritas.
There are also wine coolers, and other mixed drinks that fall in the above categories and can be served in a number of ways. It is a personal preference as to what type and flavor of alcohol you prefer.
