Most people have heard about nutritional shakes such as protein shakes, meal replacement shakes and weight loss shakes, but what is the craze all about? Are they really all that they claim to be?

The answer according to many health and fitness experts is YES! A lot of people tend to rely on protein and nutrition shakes to get their daily-recommended allowance of proteins and nutrients. Nutritional shakes make a great way to get all the protein you need and have it all in the convenience of a 250-calorie drink. The convenience of nutrition shakes is one of the reasons they are so popular. People on the go and in a hurry can simply pick up a nutrition shake and head out of the door.

Athletes rely heavily on these protein-packing drinks. They often will have them as a snack or as a supplement to their meals, where as people on weight loss plans and who are on diets will have them as a meal replacement. One of the reasons nutrition shakes make their way into the homes of so many people is that they have a lot of nutrients in one source so that you do not have to try to get all of the healthy lean protein and nutrients from other sources, often consuming hundreds of calories more than you would have in one lean shake.

Nutrition shakes have come a long way as far as taste and flavor variety go. In the old days, a nutrition shake was known to have a not so pleasant taste and usually was only available in one flavor. Today though, you can find nutritional shakes in all kinds of exotic flavors and they offer a lot more taste value than their predecessors. People who are on a calorie restrictive diet consume one to two nutrition shakes a day in place of breakfast and lunch meals. This helps them control what they eat and make sure they get all of the protein they need.
