The grapefruit is a versatile and delicious citrus fruit. In addition to the taste and nutritional benefits of the grapefruit, it has also been shown to make some pretty impressive impacts on losing weight and dieting. As with any diet plan, it is advisable to check with your doctor before starting the grapefruit diet. Grapefruit can be contraindicative with certain types of medicines, so you should tell your doctor about any medications you are taking before you start the diet.

You should be aware that the grapefruit diet plan is very restrictive, and the recommended daily caloric intake is a mere 800 calories. The plan consists of eating a half of grapefruit before every meal. The enzymes in the grapefruit stimulate the metabolism and speed up the process in which your body uses to burn calories.

The grapefruit diet plan is slotted to last for twelve days, and has claims to lose an impressive amount of weight in that short time. It is advised also that if you wish to continue the diet plan, you need to take at least two days off before you start the plan again, to let your body recover from the restricted caloric intake.

As with a lot of diet trends, the grapefruit diet plan is designed to kick-start your weight loss and diet goals, not to replace your entire diet plan for long-term uses. The grapefruit diet should only be used initially to help boost your metabolism and allow your body to burn off more calories. It can be successful, but the restrictive calorie requirements can be difficult for people to get used to.

If you are looking for a way to increase the effectiveness of your diet and weight loss plans, the grapefruit diet plan can be a good way to go, just be sure to proceed with caution and seek medical advice if you have any reason to be concerned.
