Yoga and its various benefits

yogaIt is a well known fact that yoga is extremely beneficial to everyone. Its benefits are not limited to physical and mental well being but also include spiritual health, emotional health and natural healing. As each day goes by another benefit gets added to the list.

Yoga is said to slow down the aging process of a person thereby increasing his/her mental and physical fitness. It also reduces cell damage by minimizing the absorption of toxins in the body.

The most obvious benefit of yoga is physical fitness. A variety of asanas are available depending on what you require. Asanas for losing weight either overall or in particular areas, gaining height, gastrointestinal problems, respiratory problems, better blood circulation, keeping blood pressure in check, improving cardio vascular efficiency, and in general improving stamina and health.

There are other benefits to yoga like spiritual well being. On a simple level yoga helps improve our concentration and memory power and brings clearness to the mind.

On a greater level it helps to control our mind and thoughts and in the long run develop psychic powers. It helps in self realization and brings about a feeling of unity with the environment. It restores peace.

Yoga comprises of three components namely postures, breathing and concentration. Each has a separate objective yet work together to give the maximum benefit.

Sirshasana or head stand as it is known is the most common asana. In simple terms, it involves standing on your head with your legs upwards. When combined with proper breathing it is an effective asana.

Breathing techniques like pranayama help increase the oxygen supply to the body, which in turn helps our body function better. Breathing can be done individually or along with the asanas.

In our daily life Yoga can be of immense help be it relieving work tension or relieving stress after a long journey. It helps in maintaining an emotional balance bringing about harmony in your lives. Practicing yoga for just five to ten minutes a day will ensure a huge difference in your life.
