Treatment of Neck Arthritis and Painful Joints
October 21, 2009
Many people experience neck arthritis or what is sometimes known as neck pain. This is caused by joint conditions like osteoarthritis or rheumatoid arthritis. The cartilage of the joint is damaged because of an injury or because of age or a combination of the two.
Stiffness or neck pain are symptoms that you will experience when you have neck arthritis. This condition becomes worse, especially when standing. Ironically, it can also get worse while you sleep at night or when you are just lying down because muscles are relaxed and they cannot provide the support needed to ease the pain caused by the compressed nerves. It can lead to inflammation and pain.
If you experience neck pain, you can also feel that your body is weakening. There can also be burning, numbness and tingling pain in the arm, hand and forearm. The possibility of having a headache is high especially at the back area of the head.
The condition of having neck arthritis does not improve by being stationary. It is advisable to engage in physical activities or better yet, perform some exercise routines like neck and posture exercises. Also, massage therapy will help improve the condition.
Some alternative ways to treat neck arthritis include acupuncture and homeopathy sessions. If these do not work, the last resort would be to use pain killers, though you have to be ready to bear with the side effects.
When the cartilage starts to degrade, your joints start to experience pain. However, there is a case when the cartilage is not damaged but you still experience the pain. This is called arthalgia. The joint becomes painful because of the loss or lack of lubrication.
The other causes of joint pains include fracture, fever, hepatitis, flu, chicken pox or rubella. The infection causes the joints to feel pain. These, however, are not associated with the presence of arthritis. If you have arthritis, the pain is normally caused by the damage in your cartilage.
To solve this concern, you have to change your lifestyle. You have to include working out or exercising as part of your daily activities. Eat the right food and your neck arthritis will be gone soon.
