Training Addiction
February 24, 2009
We all talk about the great benefits of fitness work. There is so much to read about working out and just how important it is to be healthy. A never ending barrage seems to be in today’s world on this topic. May be it is good since we have so many people over weight. How ever, there is a darker side to all this working out one, you may not have considered. So let me put to you a few simple questions as we go along. For starters let me ask you when was it last that you declined a date because it clashed with your workout regime? Or let’s ask you when was it that you declined an invitation to a night out of partying as you were just too worried about those extra calories?
What are we talking about? Well it’s about training addiction which believe it or not many seem to have it with out realizing it as such an addiction. To stay motivated and consistent in your training program is important but when it takes over your life and you have a negative answer to the questions above you really need to rethink what all this working out is about.
Is it about vanity? Or is it that you may have a rather low self image about your self? These are two reasons that lead the list of addiction for people who are compulsive work out fitness fanatics. For some it has been about childhood experiences that have led to low self esteem. It is strange but it has been found that in some cases when children have been over weight and have had a rough time because of it as children, they go to the extreme and take to fitness as if it was the crash course of life. This is because they have over a period of time developed a very negative image of their bodies and so are now desperately trying to compensate for it now. When the issue of actual health is over ridden by such motives, it is viewed as extremely unhealthy. The likely hood of being socially uninvolved is very high among such individuals. This is definitely not very good for the individual.
The second form of addiction comes from wanting to have a great looking body. So now, its all about the inches and muscle, and the God knows what. The health aspect has been forgotten. No, it’s now all about having those perfect abs or legs, you name it. This again is not good for any one who has come to such a way of thinking.
Rethink your fitness goals please.
