Tips for a Healthy Heart
Due to the quality of foods available today, with the proliferation of fast food and processed food, the risk of heart problems becomes high. To go with the flow of eating these unhealthy kinds of food is not a wise idea. It is still advisable to be conscious about what you eat and be able to take good care of your heart in general.
I will present some common, but neglected tips that will promote a good and healthy heart. It is good to use olive oil instead of the other types of oil in the preparation of your meals.
Olive oil reduces cholesterol, because it contains monounsaturated fat. Extra virgin and virgin oils are also healthy because of its high antioxidant level.
You can use olive oil for sautéing your vegetables, as a base for salad dressings, a dip for breads or as a replacement for the fat in baked products.
If you start using olive oil, soon you have a healthy body. Drink red wine instead of the other alcoholic beverages, because wine reduces blood clotting and it contains antioxidants that decrease cholesterol levels and prevents the formation of plaques in the arteries. Red wine is good for your health, if taken in moderation.
Drink less, if you are regular to taking drinks; but do not drink if you are not used to drinking. Red wine is not a drug that helps reduce heart risks. If your body is already taking alcohol, you should opt to drink red wine because of its benefits.
Avoid eating foods with high trans fat component. It raises the bad cholesterol and reduces the good cholesterol in your body. The daily trans fat in your diet should not be more than 1% of your intake of calories. The sources of trans fat are chips, cookies, vegetables shortenings, commercially baked pastries, French fries, fried chicken, donuts, pizza and biscuits, among others.
To determine the trans fat level, you can check on a product’s label or the Nutrition Fact Panel. The description “partially hydrogenated vegetable oils” means that the product has trans fat. Be very conscious about this when you buy your food supply.
There are many ways to promote a healthy heart. A good exercise is also one. If you consider and apply your exercise and diet responsibly, your heart will jump with joy, because it knows that you are seriously taking care of it.
