Think Before You Purchase Exercise Equipment
April 22, 2009
You already know that you need to eat a healthy diet, manage stress, and give up vices such as smoking and alcohol consumption. What we sometimes forget is that exercise is a crucial part of any fitness plan.
Sometimes we want to exercise but just don’t have time in our schedules to regularly visit the gym. If this seems to be your case you might want to consider purchasing a few pieces of exercise equipment and setting up a home gym, which should provide you with the motivation you need to get in shape.
Here are a few things that you need to think about when you are purchasing exercise equipment for your home gym.
Avoid Fat Burners
Do not purchase any piece of equipment because it promises that it will burn all of the fat from your hips, butt, or thighs. The term “fat burner” is a sales gimmick. Exercise equipment is designed to help you develop and tone your muscles; if used properly it can boost your metabolism, but it will never make your fat magically melt away.
Ignore Testimonials
Don’t get too caught up in the testimonials. All the testimonials are is what other people think about the machine (and you don’t know how many of the testimonials are true). Since yours is the only opinion that matters, you should try out the machine in the store or at a gym so that you can personally decide whether or not you like the machine.
Call Customer Service
Before you purchase a piece of exercise equipment you should contact the customer support number. You want to make sure that the customer service department is easy to reach and that the people you are dealing with are professional and friendly.
Figure the Whole Cost
When you are purchasing a piece of exercise equipment you should make sure that you calculate the entire cost of the equipment, including sales tax, shipping, and any setup costs. You should also spend some time comparison shopping to see whether or not you can get a better deal somewhere else. Don’t forget to check online stores and auction sites as you may be able to find better prices.
Keep the Warranty
If you are purchasing a piece of brand new exercise equipment make sure it comes with a warranty. Safely store the sales receipt and all of your warranty information so that you know where to access it in the future if needed.
