The Right Way of Healthy Weight Loss

If you think you are overweight you can check it with this simple method. Take a measurement of the broadest part of your hips – that should be around your buttocks.

Then take another measurement of the narrowest part of your waist. Divide the reading of your waist with the reading of your hips. This is known as the waist-to-hips ratio.

If the result is 0.95 and above in the case of men, then you are overweight. You need to start a weight loss program if you find yourself in this category.

The best method

The best method of losing weight is a combination of exercise and diet. You must not immediately subject yourself to strenuous exercise. The shock will be too much for the body.

If, for example, you are not used to walking or running, it will not be advisable to attempt to walk or run for three miles in a day. You have to start slowly and gradually increase the intensity. One thing you should know is that your body prefers slow changes – either with exercise or with diet. Healthy weight loss is not sudden; it is gradual.

How weight loss is achieved

For you to lose weight, you will have to burn more calories than you take in. Slowly increasing exercise and maintaining the amount of calories you eat will result in weight loss. You can start with short walks and gradually increase the distance you cover.

Choose the right activities

In trying to lose weight through exercise, you have to choose an activity that is affordable, appropriate and enjoyable for you. You must choose an activity that fits your daily routine and which you can easily maintain. You must also choose activities that fit your general health condition.

If you don’t like going to the gym, you have other alternatives. You can do long walks at the beach or in a nearby park. There are a lot of exercises you can do with chairs in your home. You can get off the bus earlier and walk the rest of the distance to your destination. You can buy an exercise bike and keep it in your living room so you can exercise while watching your favorite TV programs.

Opt for healthy diet

In the case of diet, don’t chose what could be described as a crash diet. You must opt for healthy foods but you must not deprive yourself of needed nutrients. A healthy diet means cutting down on fat while eating fiber rich food, vegetables, and lean meats.
