The Relationship Mantra

The key to a long, lasting relationship and a healthy one too, is to know each other. It is not surprising how much we know or how less me know of people in our relationships. It is said that there are hundreds of thousands of people out there raising strangers, their own children they know so little about.

Besides there are millions more married to strangers and even working with people they don’t know are strangers to them. What makes these people strangers? The lack of out knowledge of their likes dislikes fears, hopes, frustrations, and plans for the future and their past. That is what makes them strangers to us.

If you want to improve your communication and understanding as well as your acceptance of your colleagues at work, your relationship partners and your children it is best to get to know them better. This is something that works both ways and is a great way to relieve stress especially at work and in a marriage. It helps to know how people will react in a certain situation this way you will be able to engineer a situation so as to make it more amicable for all involved. You can only do this is you know the people involved.

One should get out a paper and pen or pencil and begin working on their understanding of people who matter. Begin with a few simple questions to get to know details of personal as well as business likes and dislikes of people who matter.

To begin with the person you think you know best – your spouse. Do you know when she is happiest? Do you know what she wishes you would talk about more often? When is she afraid? When does she like you best? What are her biggest fears and when does she like you best? Surprise, surprise! Bet you could not even answer one of these queries.

If you could answer at least two of these questions confidently you are pretty good at your relationship. However, two is still just a pass – get to work man!
