The Fundamental Rules Of Grooming
October 31, 2008
There are four fundamental rules men just have to follow if they want to make a mark as a well groomed gentleman. They must learn how to take care of their footwear, Wear their shirts and T-shirts, Wear cloths that fit well and give a lot of thought to detail.
To begin with the shoes, guys must understand that their personality stands on their footwear, the very foundation of their grooming. Believe it or not but women judge their men-to-be by the shoes they wear. Women do this all the time, most do it subconsciously but they do give a lot of importance to shoes. Just imagine how much thought they put in to the shoes they wear – so how can yours be far from their attention? Try to get yourself a couple or more good pairs of shoes to suit your wardrobe it will pay rich dividends in the future.
If you are wearing a shirt that does not fit into the ‘casual wear’ category then you should tuck it in. This means that the shirt should be neatly tucked into the trousers and not crumpled at the waist. A good way to do this is to tuck it in, fasten the belt and raise your arms over your head. This will pull the shirt out as far as it will ever come during the day. Then you should fold it over to cover about a quarter of the belt. This looks smart and will not need to be tucked in again during the day. When you attend a formal party or meeting this is the way to wear your shirts. Any other casual occasion and you and wear the T-shirts or casual shirts out.
If you want your outfit to fit in with the occasion then you should wear clothes that fit. The baggy style is out and is actually for school and college kids. If you want to wear suits then remember to get the length of the pants right to expose a couple of inches of socks when you sit, the cuffs must extend out of the coat sleeves by about half an inch only and preferably sport cufflinks in stead of just plain buttons. The jacket should fall neatly around the waistline and not bulge out the back.
The final and most important is the finishing touch. You must match your belt to your shoes i.e. black belt with black shoes and brown belt with brown shoes. Your shirt must be well matched to your tie or scarf. Then the cufflinks are what adds the finishing touch with preferably a matching watch on your wrist. Remember to wear clean underwear and socks, not because you might end up in the morgue at the end of the day but because it is the proper thing to do.
Keep these four rules in mind the next time you are deciding what to wear and you will notice people noticing you!
