The Effects of Asthma on Fitness

Working out will not be considered by people who have asthma. Most of them would think that physical activities like lifting weights or jogging may induce the attack of asthma and may only cause a problem.
Indeed, this is a difficult situation because this becomes a choice between an asthma attack and having a physically fit body. Because avoiding asthma is the common decision, most people who have asthma have weight problems and because of the inactivity, the possibility of more attacks happening is very likely.
Asthmatic people have difficulty in breathing. There is a whizzing sound during inhalation and exhalation of air. And when an attack happens, a tightness of chest as well as coughing and fatigue are felt.
This is a truly difficult situation for those who have asthma. With these, you would not want to engage in any physical activity that would require heavy breathing, not even for a few minutes.
A strenuous activity triggers an asthma attack. It can be mild or serious but still, asthmatic people will avoid strenuous physical activity. Intensive cardio workout and long term weight lifting will not do any good.
Aside from triggering factors like allergens, pollution and other irritants in the environment, doctors say that physical exertion is also a possible cause of an attack.
But because of the absence of activity, the likelihood of having asthma attack is very high. Being inactive will cause shortness of breath. The lungs are not practiced very well with routine breathing exercises and shortness of breath is not easy to handle.
It is therefore necessary for asthmatics to engage themselves in an exercise program that is not high in intensity and in impact. This is also good for the lungs. Just take a regulated program and the situation will improve.
Jogging during the cold season may not be a good idea but to exercise lightly will be helpful for the breathing exercise that will help in the condition.
Eating the right food is also important. Since there is a not so intensive physical activity, there should be a reduction in the amount of carbohydrates in the diet. You will not have enough activity to burn those calories.
