Testosterone Myths
December 4, 2008
Many of us find ourselves wondering about the real truth behind all those Olympic athletes and star players who’ve had doping charges levelled against them, like (e.g. Barry Bonds and Roger Clemens) and for whom testosterone may have been the miracle answer to getting their ‘steroid success.’ However, staying clean and still being healthy and fit is possible even without the so-called support of ‘steroids’ and minus the unsavoury association with its testosterone building power; this is why it is necessary to understand the facts behind testosterone and bust the myths surrounding it.
Testosterone is a key male hormone that has benefits galore for men; it is vital in developing their sexual organ’s functioning, like sperm production besides helping muscle building and toning while artificially, it is injected to men who suffer from infertility (or those who wish to go in for vasectomy reversal) besides other sexual problems.
Those men who may have been diagnosed medically as suffering from low testosterone are treated with the hormone for diseases such as depression, chronic fatigue and reduced muscular or athletic performance, but many a time, it has been found that a high dose of testosterone has helped to renew muscle tone and reduce fat, besides increasing energy and motivation levels for men. Thus, some men mistakenly feel that testosterone in high doses is the key to good health; however, scientific research has proven that for reducing the risk of diabetes and cardiovascular diseases, it is important for men to have normal testosterone levels and not high ones.
This is very important for men to realize: that testosterone is not a miracle drug! It is also crucial for men to understand that even though testosterone is legally available as a prescription drug, it should only be used on a doctor’s advice and then too, not for influencing athletic performance, which violates rules of good sports and even for sexual dysfunction cases, may cause undesirable side-effects if its use is not monitored.
