Some Fine Living Expensive Wines
November 25, 2008
When wine is past the 50 year mark, the possibility that it could still be drinkable is gone. Yet people still buy wines like that at very unimaginable high prices. The reason for that is they do it for the sake of collection. Therefore if you see an old bottle of wine on sale, don’t buy it if you want to drink. The following are some old expensive wines that are still available today.
1996 Screaming Eagle Cabernet Sauvignon Napa Valley
It is priced from $2,249. This is a rich and dense wine that has flavors of mint, cassis and tobacco. This expensive wine could be paired with roasted and charred pork tenderloin with black trumpet emulsion.
1999 Domaine de la Romanée Conti La Tache
The price starts from $2,499. It is a full-bodied Burgundy Pinot Noir. It has a nose of strawberries, raspberries, oak and spice. It has a bright acidity, a silky texture, and a lingering finish. It is very expressive on the tongue. This gem could be paired succulent with chicken breasts stuffed with parmesan, prosciutto and sun-dried tomatoes.
1961 Chateau Palmer Margaux
This is a stunning wine from the 1961 vintage. It is priced from $2,999. It opens with a mature bouquet. It is still drinkable until 2015. It will go well with crown roast of lamb and a mustard rub.
1961 Chateau Trotanoy Pomerol
It is believed that 1961 was a strong year for some French vintages. The Chateau Trotanoy Pomerol is one of them. It is not very bold as compared to some of its contemporaries but its taste is big. It has flavors of raspberry, cherry, caramel and plum. It is priced from $4,595
1997 Diamond Creek Vineyards Cabernet Sauvignon Lake Vineyard
With notes of anise, currant, leather, minerals, cedar and sage this wine is bold, dark and dense. It is very rare as compared to other expensive wines. It is yet to be at its best. Don’t expect to pay below $4,999.99 for a bottle. This could be paired with venison and forest mushrooms.
1982 Chateau Lafleur Pomerol
A 25-year-old wine which starts with aromas of truffle, tobacco, minerals, cherries and sweet berries but ends with a very complex taste. This wine is concentrated with a long fruity finish. It is highly rated by Wine Spectator. It starts from $5,850. It is a heavy wine so pair it with a sharp and aged cheese.
