Selecting Oxford Shoes

Every man loves his sneakers, but there comes a time when keds need to be replaced or at least supplemented with some basic shoes that would cover a range of possible occasions in every adult man’s life, including dating, attending office, club-wear, outdoor adventures, casual outings besides celebrations!

The first and most basic type of shoes every man should own are dress shoes; the classic Oxfords your Dad wore to work or business shoes that afford traditional lace-up styles while staying below the ankle come in this category. Oxfords are luckily shoes that look good on all men, unlike loafers or boots that require a certain physique or personality to carry them off.

Sometimes, dress shoes are less structured and even open-laced (called Bluchers) with the sides sewn to the top of the shoe or closed-laced (called Balmorals); this gives the impression of the shoe being made of different parts in the first instance and with the front sewn with the sides but from underneath the tongue of the shoe, thus giving one-piece of leather finish. However, both types are pretty funky footwear for the young maverick type businessman.

If the oxfords have leather embroidery on them, they are referred to as Brogues.

You can also opt for Saddle oxfords that are shaped after the name they take and the saddle of the shoe are usually another colour or different type of leather as compared to the rest of the shoe.

If you like the unconventional look in footwear, go for Kilty oxfords, which have leather-fringing design falling over the instep in a way that covers its laces and eyelets.

However, for all oxfords or dress shoes, remember to buy quality and real leather and buy at least one pair in black to team with all types of formal suits besides one in brown to pair with tweed and sports jackets on the casual events; also good for Friday dressing.
