Prevention Of Arthritis
October 29, 2008
Arthritis is a debilitating physical condition but it is as much a mentally worrisome one as well as it limits the proper and full functioning of an otherwise healthy body. In order to guard yourself against this weakening of the bones, read up and practice a lifestyle that can help prevent arthritis from setting in or worsening from a mild to severe condition.
Scientific research and studies prove that you can prevent arthritis through maintenance of the correct diet and regular exercise that is customized for your age, body type and fitness level. The primary complaint associated with arthritis is painful joints; you can avoid this by including full-body exercises into your regular physical activity routine, such as swimming and cycling.
For seniors however, if the above two strenuous exercises are not possible, or even for younger persons with any health conditions that put them at risk if indulging in either, there is the option of incorporating walking and light aerobic exercises, such as Yoga, which help in overall wellbeing of the body and mind.
It is important to maintain a healthy lifestyle to prevent arthritis and regular exercise (at least thrice a week for a duration of 1 to 1 and ½ hour) at a moderate pace is the key to keeping this painful joint complaint at bay. If your personal trainer or healthcare advisor okay adding to the intensity of your chosen exercise regime, you can do so, otherwise stick to your regular routine and increase the frequency instead of raising the intensity. This will give you good results for improved fitness levels as well as help boost your energy levels so you stay mentally agile too.
Do remember to also pay close attention to your dietary intake, which should ideally include food ingredients with high nutritive values for bone strengthening, such as fish oils, flaxseed oil or primrose oil, all of which are attributed with properties that ease inflammation in the joints. The best preventive arthritis diet must also include meal planning that accommodates high mineral, vitamin and anti-oxidant containing foods e.g. carrots, tomatoes, green tea etc.
