Points For Shaving Your Head

Many guys have taken to shaving their scalps just as frequently as they shave their faces. What many of these guys don’t realize is that their scalp is not their face and they tend to treat just the same as they would their facial hair. The skin of the scalp is not as tender or soft as the facial skin; it is much tougher and need a bit of different treatment when it comes to giving it a shave.
The collagen layer, or dermis, of the scalp is much thicker than the skin on the face according to Dr. Bernstein, the Medical Director of the new Hair Institute. Dr. Bernstein is of the opinion that the scalp should be exfoliated the night before the shave with a facial scrub. After the exfoliation an oil treatment must be applied for the best results. Exfoliation is very necessary because unlike facial hair that grows in single units hair on the scalp grows in groups of 2 or four and is much more difficult to shave smooth.
Another important point to remember is that when shaving your scalp you should use shaving creams that are free from alcohol. Alcohol is known to dehydrate the skin causing dryness that leads to itchiness and overall bad skin texture. One way to identify alcohol free shaving products is to look for any ingredient on the label that ends with ‘ol’ this indicates that the product does contain alcohol – avoid using it. Try to find a shaving product that contains natural oils like coconut oil for instance.
Then we come to the actual act of shaving. Never press down on the scalp while shaving; this will not give you a closer shave contrary to popular belief. Starting from the front use short strokes with the razor within 2 inches long and never shave against the growth, shave the scalp preferably in a side ways motion and apply a second coat of lather and shave again – even the barber knows the value of a second shave!
When you have finished apply some moisturizer and protection from the sun until the next time!
