With an ambition to ‘be Hugh Hefner,’ the latest January 2009 Playboy cover model for the men’s magazine’s 55th Anniversary issue, Dasha Astafieva, has proved she is more than just a pretty face with a singing voice.
This Ukrainian dark-eyed curvaceous model and singer who is a known Playmate (has appeared in recent pin-up versions of the glam mag) and part of the pop music group, calling themselves NikitA is a lady with luscious leanings and mean aspirations to reach to the top of her career with business smarts and a noble desire to support her family through financially tough times. She further adds that she and her band member, Julia often dress up as ‘twins’ exhibiting “aggressive sexual energy,” as opposed to the other girl bands that promote ‘sweetness.’
Dasha, born in Ukraine, grew up there to see trying economic times faced by her family and only left the Soviet Union after its fall; the reason she was always willing to pose for Playboy, which she equated with a publication that promoted a healthy sense of sexuality, she says (and it didn’t hurt that it had a global outreach in terms of readers!)
However, though Dasha started her modelling career in 2003 it was only 4 years later that she got the title of Playmate of the Year in the Ukrainian Playboy issue; but, the latest feather in her cap after much attention focused on her blow-ups in the subsequent issues is being presented as Miss January 2009 in Playboy’s 55th Anniversary Playmate, slated to hit the news stands on 12th December, 2008.
On here being chosen for this honour, which she is quick to reveal was eyed by other American beauties who felt cheated out of the privilege of being the cover for the 55th Anniversary issue, Dasha says, “all the girls who wanted to be in the entertainment business knew how to act, behave, pose, sit,” whereas she was “more natural and innocent. They were prepared for being famous, while I was prepared just to be myself.” She feels, she was picked as the face of the Playboy 55th Anniversary issue because she is different and acted true to her self.
