Muscle diseases
July 3, 2009
The most important parts of the body for movement are muscles. Without them there will be no movements. Apart from that they give the body the shape it assumes.Just as there are diseases for all other parts and organs of the body, so are there diseases for the muscles.
There are many diseases that can affect the muscles: from infections, physical damage, nutritional deficiencies, and many other causes. Everybody is at risk of developing a muscle disease at a point in time.
Common muscle diseases
Some common diseases of the muscle are muscular cramps, aches, strains, and dystrophy. We all suffer from these types of muscle diseases at various points in time.
Causes of muscle disease
There are causes and factors responsible for the development of muscle disease. The commonest among them is genetics. Many of the fatal diseases of the muscles like the chronic fatigue syndrome are caused by genetic mutations.
In those cases, there is nothing that could be done to avert the disease. The only thing is to be careful so that some of its harmful consequences could be avoided.
Physical injuries
Physical injuries can happen to the muscles if there are direct impacts like blows to the muscles, and when they are overstretched or exercised in the wrong manner.
There could be damage to muscles from accidents too. These injuries could heal but very serious ones do not heal. Those injuries that do not heal can degenerate into chronic conditions.
That is why such serious injuries should be avoided as much as possible. During exercise, it is possible to do wrong stretching or overstretching of the muscles. It is therefore important to be very careful during exercise.
Infections
There are infections that can affect the muscles leading to diseases. Infections come through many means. They can come from other parts and organs of the body; there are some that are muscle infections by nature. Cuts and incisions on the body may open the door to infections of the muscles.
Prevention
Muscle diseases could be avoided by taking good care of them. One of this is proper nutrition and regular exercise. We can also prevent muscle diseases by avoiding exposure to factors that may cause physical injuries to them.
