Muscle Cramps

Why do muscle cramp is not a hundred percent understood till date. This is because there are so many variables. However, we all know what it feels like to have muscle cramp. The pain just seems to drop us in our tracks till the pain subsides. For those of you who work out you would possibly have felt the feeling of painful spasmodic muscle contractions. These are really at best involuntary. What are the reasons for us to cramp?
The number one reason for muscle cramps is electrolytes. Your electrolytes and hydration status plays an important role when it comes to you getting or not getting cramps. Those of you who may have seen some at the gym drinking Gatorade are not doing it for the taste. They are more importantly replacing the sodium-potassium balance during their work out. This is necessary for good nerve muscle function. During a work out it is normal to sweat heavily as the intensity and duration in time of the work out increases. Excessive sweating will cause valuable depletion of essential salts, from the body. So if this happens you are bound to cramp. This means you should insure you are eating a healthy diet.
On the other hand you may find that, you are cramping but do not seem to know what the reason could be. One of the other reasons for cramping is when in reverse an individual drinks too much water during a work out. This is not good. Apart from the fact that the body is loosing valuable minerals from sweating, you are flushing it with cool or cold water. This throws the muscle totally off gear. This is specially so in areas where it is very hot and you are working out. The over heated conditions will cause more than normal amounts of mineral loss from the body in the form of sweat. This will cause sever fatigue and weakness as it effects the muscle negatively.
Another reason for muscles cramping is when you have a deficiency of calcium in your system. Ever had muscle cramps at night sleeping especially in the cold. This is a clear and sure sign of calcium deficiency. What actually happens is that cellular fluid around the nerves and muscle are over stimulating the never endings causing the muscle to cramp.
Lastly, in all of this let us say that when a muscle is over worked it gets tired and a muscle cramp is a simple way of the body asking you to please slow down.
