Research has proved that exercise complemented by the correct diet give far superior results. Further exercise and conditioning result in toned and lean muscles. Here are top three types of foods that help to build muscle.

Proteins: Proteins help in burning fat and building muscle. They help repair and rebuild the muscles. This is an essential feature to tap on, especially when under a fitness program that targets the muscles.

Natural sources of protein are red and white meat, dairy and poultry. Soy beans are rich sources of protein, so are Brussels sprouts and other beans. Too much consumption of red meat increases cholesterol levels, therefore pay heed and reduce intake of red meats.

Carbohydrates: are sources of energy and stamina. They are simple and complex carbohydrates. They may be burnt as energy or stored as fat. Exercise burns the excess fat. Carbohydrates are found in rice, pasta and grains.

A low carbohydrate and high protein diet is a sure fire way to lose weight and build muscle. It is important to have complex carbohydrates to provide calories and energy. High quality carbohydrates are very helpful in a weight loss program.

Vitamins and minerals: Proteins and carbohydrates alone do not provide a balanced meal. It needs to be supplemented with vitamins and minerals to provide a well balanced and nutritious diet. Vitamins help in providing energy and help to repair and rebuild tissue. Minerals keep the body hydrated and when obtained from natural sources help in heart and bone health.

As much as we give importance to carbohydrates, vitamins, minerals and proteins, we need to understand the benefits of copious water consumption.

Water helps to hydrate the body. Regular consumption increases metabolic rate and helps to burn fat. When fat gets burned, muscles are built. Consumption of water also helps to rid the body of toxins.
