Moss lipstick portrait fetches big bucks!
October 3, 2008
Supermodel Kate Moss, (Katherine Ann Moss) had already made waves on the British as well as International fashion circuit before she was crowned the catwalk queen after she made ‘the waif’ look famous with her gamine looks and slight frame. She really didn’t need the extra publicity that came her way for trying out her artistic leanings, but that’s the deal with fame – it goes just jolly well where it’s not needed!
So, Ms. Moss’s random doodling with her lipstick last summer brought her famous face in the limelight not just for the self-portrait she sketched with her lipper, but the price it fetched – a record $9 million from July 2007 till the summer of 2008!
In fact, these record earnings from her now-famous lipstick sketch have earned Kate Moss her name on Forbes magazine’s World 15 best earning supermodel’s list. This is not the only heavy tag on a painting associated with the waif-like Ms. Moss as a professional effort by Lucian Freud showing her as a strong, physically arresting woman in a life-size nude portrait also fetched 3.5 million pounds from a secret buyer earlier. If rumors are to be believed, the gossips claim the buyer to have been the delicately framed supermodel herself!
The fact that she’d appeared on over 300 magazine covers and has an uncommon modeling height for fashion models is one that has worked in favor of the interest her activities (both on the ramp and in her personal, rather controversial life) have generated among bidders and buyers of art associated with Kate Moss. She has been a part of many successfully and globally recalled advertising campaigns, but the fame has always been a rather dubious kind as her high-profile lifestyle has always been under the scanner by the paparazzi for her various flings and penchant for partying!
Though, in this instance, the artistic efforts of the supermodel have fetched her a good 33,600 pounds at a recent auction, the self-portrait doodled with a lipstick was actually expected to sell for more (in the range of 30 thousand – 40thousand pounds) as her latest arm-candy, Babyshambles front-man, Pete Doherty, too has been instrumental in getting the art-work a personal touch and thus, adding to its worth.
Moss is alleged to have revealed that the artwork has her lip-prints and Doherty’s bloodstains on the canvas. What can we say, but whatever tickles your pickle, folks!
