Pop-star Madonna recently turned the big five-oh but her youthful looks, evergreen singing voice or even her oriental inclinations for fitness and fashion are not the hottest gossip generators today. It is the long list of eminent personalities who make up the record of being Madonna’s Men.
We reveal some of the best-known faces and names, who are celebrities in their own rights and also famous as having been Madonna’s Men.
Madonna’s romantic dalliances have long-been the topic of speculation in scandal rags and international mags, but it is as much for her controversial costumes on stage, her rique, often shocking lyrics and frank love for the unconventional that have flamed the fires of her many relationships with men as diverse as Hollywood actors, backing dancers, sports heroes and even film producers.
John ‘Jellybean’ Benitez was among the first of Madonna’s famous male companions and it is said that it was his musical genius that got Madge (as Madonna is affectionately referred to in the world of pop-music) on the road to stardom. Johnny boy wrote her chart-busting number, Holiday, released in 1983, it seems and thus kick started her rocking career!
Soon after, Madge took a fancy to Sean Penn during the filming of her video ‘Material Girl’ in 1985; a whirlwind romance followed and the pair tied the knot later the same year.
Penn divorced Madonna in 1988, though problems about their relationship had been rife for a couple of years before that. On her part, Madonna was honest enough to take partial blame for the break-up of their marriage stating, “I was completely obsessed with my career and not ready to be generous in any shape or form.”
The same year, she met her new love, Warren Beatty, who was the director and lead for the film Dick Tracy and probably because he was over 20 years her senior, it was a brief though much written about relationship.
Another fling with rapper, Vanilla Ice followed in 1991, probably to squash the rumors of her link-up with John F Kennedy Jr, Madonna. The rapper played what is referred to as a ‘prominent’ role in Madonna’s much talked about Sex book!
The list of Madonna’s men also includes Dennis Rodman, the flamboyant basketball player turned actor (also a musician and model), Carlos Leon – her personal trainer (with whom she had baby Lourdes), British writer Andy Bird 9who sold the story of their relationship to the press) and her longest lasting love, Guy Ritchie, another British national with a country estate in Wiltshire
