Ironing your clothes
Good grooming isn’t only about the designer tags on your shirt or shoes or even putting together the right mix of cologne, attitude and carrying off the right hairstyle; in fact, sometimes, it may be something as relatively simple as knowing how to iron your clothes so they hang right on you!
Yes, you may not have given this aspect of your wardrobe upkeep much thought, but perhaps its time you did as creased shirts and crushed ties may look as if they belong together, but its just as likely your boss or better half (or the potential one, if you’re scouting still) may have reservations about how much their presence matters in your life.
If your idea of pressed clothes has been laying them between your mattress and bed or piling heavy books over them at night so far, or even if you’ve been sending out the clothes for ironing them, the shoddy effect of the first instance and the fat bill of the latter can well take its toll over a period of time.
On the other hand, ironing your clothes at home takes little effort to learn and can help you look your crisp-collared best anytime and saves you the bother of keeping a tab on the delivery or pick-up dates for an outsourced service you used.
Investment in a steam iron serves many different ironing purposes, especially welcome for winter-wear wardrobes and clothes that may come out a bit damp from the washing machine since it smoothens out the wrinkles in a jiffy and takes minimum effort to iron.
Start with filling the iron with water and then plugging it in; set it at the desired temperature, according to the requirements stated on the clothing label.
For clothes that are overly creased, you can sprinkle a little water on the fabric using a spray-bottle, but for others, keep ironing the garment till it is completely dry. On a parting note, do not iron over stains on a garment as this can set it in more and to reduce your ironing load, add a few good quality wrinkle-free trousers and shirts to your regular or party wear wardrobe!
