The anaerobic energy system extracts energy in the form of glycogen from the carbohydrates stored in the muscles. This energy is drawn every time there is a short burst of activity such as sprinting or lifting objects. This system does not require oxygen nor does it provide the body with energy in excess of what is actually needed for the sudden activity. This energy conversion is responsible forth burning feeling we have in our muscles after a spurt of activity.
