October 27, 2009
The present day world is full of anxiety and tension. Blood pressure is a common problem and nowadays, even some of the youngsters are facing this problem.
Many prescription medicines are available to control the blood pressure. These have to be used under strict medical supervision. All the same, using these medicines for a longer duration will cause many side effects.
Of course, there are methods to lower the blood pressure without the use of medicines. This method is by use of natural foods or products. Out of the many such natural products, four products are given here with a brief explanation as to how they reduce the blood pressure:
Dark Chocolate: Dark Chocolates are rich in antioxidants which ultimately help to lower blood pressure. Of course, chocolate contains some amount of fat. Eating dark chocolate just one once every day will neither add to your weight nor an increase in cholesterol levels. The added advantage of dark chocolate is that it lowers blood pressure.
Baked Potato: To control blood pressure, sodium levels in the body should be maintained. The Potassium present in potato helps to maintain the correct level of sodium in the body. Nutritional experts suggest that you bake potatoes instead of mashing them.
This is because while mashing, we remove the skin of the potato. Much of the potassium is present in the skin and when we remove the skin this nutrient is lost. Nutritional experts also advise against boiling potatoes because much of the nutrients present in the skin will be lost in the water that is drained out after boiling.
Skim milk: Blood pressure is controlled up to 10% by two important nutrients viz., Calcium and Vitamin ‘D’. These nutrients are abundantly present in milk. By using skim milk, we reduce consumption of fat. So, it does not add to the weight and at the same time, it helps to reduce blood pressure.
Spinach: Yet another important nutrient which helps to reduce blood pressure is magnesium. This nutrient is abundantly found in Spinach. In addition to Magnesium, Spinach is also rich in potassium. It also contains a good quantity of fiber, when it is taken raw. All these nutrients present in spinach help to reduce Blood Pressure to a great extent.
