Finding Balance
December 23, 2008
In the competitive and hectic pace of modern life, it has often been found by many men that finding an elixir for a happy life is easier than finding balance as there are so many random and easily available means for entertaining, enjoying and even forgetting the daily tensions, like attending theatres, participating in dance shows or going to a bar or amusement park.
For men who don’t much care for any of the above ways of unwinding, there are the options of joining a meditation camp, going on a weekend getaway or taking up a sporting activity. But these are still only temporary ways of getting away from the stress and strain of daily life and provide provisional relief.
In order to find balance for a harmonious life, it is important to find fool-proof ways that suit one’s personality and lifestyle so that these can always be used as a sure-fire plan that one can fall back on for securing stability and thereby, leading a happier, more wholesome and stress-free life.
However, if you follow the fundamental checklist for a cheerful, well-balanced life, like the one provided by stress management experts and reproduced for you below, you will find that applying these simple but effective relaxation techniques to your daily life will help you improve its quality over time.
Begin by understanding that things that are worth realizing take time; be prepared to make time and wait it out for them to materialize as intended instead of anticipating deadlines and stressing yourself. Be kind to yourself and allot yourself reasonable targets for doing jobs: e.g. for attending meetings, make an allowance of 20 per cent extra time than you think you may need.
Live within your mean and only upgrade when you can truly afford it e.g. trade those fancy wheels for a fuel-efficient mid-size sedan if you have to and you’ll have lesser payments to worry about (EMIs, monthly maintenance, servicing, petrol, partying etc.) and also minimize your mental tensions this way.
Finally, remember that when you leave the office, leave your work there too; do not contaminate family time and space with office pressures and keep it as a personal sanctuary so you find the balance between home and career that you seek!
