Fight Workplace Stress
March 26, 2009
Some people believe stress is good for our systems as it keeps us ahead in this race of life. This may be true but the problem is that we have been with time given to accept more and more stress in our lives. This because the Jones’s are doing it so it must be ok for us to do it. After all, we do not want to fall behind them; most importantly, we do not want to be seen as ‘weak’. So day in and day out more and more people are slowly pushing them selves into taking on more and more loads of work when in actual they are completely out done with what they already have as on date.
This is a sure way to blow the lid of any pressure cooker is it not? It is he same with your body. So now, we know why younger men and women are suffering from all kinds of heart related diseases. I often like to believe our bodies are like the processor of a computer. Now if you are the basic computer you have a certain degree of computing skills. If the system is over loaded, it will first slow down and then even crash if you push it beyond the limits.
This will not happen to a more advanced computer for the same amount of work of course. Similarly, it is with our systems. We all have a level of capacity as on today. Those who workout and eat healthy have a higher level of managing stress than some one who is not. So what should we do to help us in what state of affair we currently are in?
Well here are a few things I think would be of help. I think the first thing that you must do is get your ears to the ground and know what’s going on where you work. People are so involved with their own schedules they fail to realize they are not single identities and that at the end of the day it’s all about teams working together.
So, get a realistic grip of events around you all the time. Just knowing how things are flowing around you will ease off a lot of tension from your shoulders as you will be more in synch with real time events. Secondly take short breaks from your desk, do not eat lunch at your desk. Avoid trying to play the perfectionist and lastly do not take office work home.
