What does a person need to know about obesity? They need to know what causes obesity and how obesity can impact a person’s health. They also need to know how not to become obese and what to do if they do find themselves categorized as obese. This article will discuss the facts about obesity.
A person who is obese is more than just overweight. A person who is overweight simply has a few extra pounds that put them over their ideal weight. Obesity, however, means that the person is extremely overweight. An overweight person may have a BMI, or body mass index, of more than 25kg/m2. A person suffering from obesity will have a BMI of over 30kg/m2. A healthy BMI averages 20kg/m2.
Two of the major causes of obesity are a poor diet and inactivity. A poor diet consists of an excess intake of fats and carbohydrates. Especially the carbohydrates that are found in sweets and junk food.
Physical exercise means that the person is actually exercising but they are not performing any strenuous physical exercise.
When a person does not exercise they are said to leave a sedentary lifestyle. This can lead to obesity or other types of medical conditions.
Obesity can drastically affect a person’s health. It can also lead to a wide variety of physical problems such as stretch marks and cellulite as well as additional health problems such as pain when moving the back and joints.
An obese person is susceptible to acquiring life threatening health conditions like heart disease and cancer.
The best way to fight obesity is to address the problems that are causing it. The two main causes of obesity are a poor diet and limited or no physical activity.
These two causes need to be addressed and changed. An obese person needs to reevaluate their diet of high fat and carbohydrate foods and instead focus on a low fat and low calorie diet.
Low fat diets limit the amount of fatty foods a person eats and substitutes the fatty foods for healthier alternatives.
A low calorie diet focuses on limiting the amount of calories a person consumes.
Along with a healthy diet, a person needs to begin an exercise routine. This can start out with walking briskly every day and then progressing onto more difficult and strenuous workouts.
