Extreme Holidays

The holidays are coming around again and it’s time to decide on a vacation. But maybe you’re tired of lying on a beach somewhere, or traipsing through another museum. There are plenty of options available to those who are looking for something a little more extreme in their holiday vacation.
Rafting down a river through rushing white water can be an activity for the truly adventurous individual. Dramatic scenery provides the perfect backdrop for adrenaline pumping rapids, with heart-stopping drops and chilling waves crashing against the raft. Some rivers even offer the added attraction of old temples or thick jungles for those looking for a truly beautiful ride.
For those individuals that think rafting isn’t quite extreme enough, a white shark expedition offers an even more exciting experience. You can see the sharks from the docks of South Africa, but you can also take a dive and see them up close and personal in the deep waters off the coast.
It takes a little more preparation, as you will have to improve your diving skills and research shark behavior, but for those with the drive and ambition, shark spotting will be an unforgettable experience.
But maybe the water isn’t for you. If that’s the case, climbing might give you the adventure you crave. Be prepared though, climbing treks can last over 10 days and be very exhausting.
It’s not for everyone. Sleeping in tents, carrying heavy equipment, and hiking through snow in higher elevations can definitely put some off the idea. For those willing to make the effort, the prize consists of unbelievable views, an absence of people and the majesty of nature.
Exploring a desert can be truly exciting. It provides a real adventure, as you battle against heat, snakes and scorpions. The usual place to explore a desert is in Africa, and you’ll also be able to see the oldest parts of the world there. The local people and animals are found nowhere else and will lead to stories that will last a lifetime.
If you really want to challenge yourself, the most extreme trip you can make is to the North Pole. This expedition will allow you to see one of the most unique vistas on the planet. You can see polar bears in their natural habitat and experience the coldest climate available on Earth.
It’s rarely easy to pick just one, but an extreme holiday will provide the opportunity for some amazing memories.
