Exercises to Increase Your Vertical Jump

verticaljumpThe way to improve your vertical jump is to exercise. Exercise helps us perform in other sports and activities. To jump high you need to strengthen the muscles of the lower body.

The vertical jump on the person’s vertical plane is defined as the highest point off the ground that they can jump just using their own body.

Many sports like basketball and dancing require the ability to jump high. The following are some things you can do to increase your vertical jump. One exercise is to stand in place and jump up and down 20 to 60 times.

Another good exercise to increase your jump is jumping rope. As you continue to jump, your muscles become accustomed to this motion. Using a pogo stick is another way to increase your jump and increase the strength of your leg muscles.

Walking on you tip toes can make your calves stronger and increase your vertical jump.  To strengthen your shin muscles you can walk on your heels. You will increase your vertical jump if you strengthen you quads, bottom, and calves.

Climbing stairs will help to develop the muscle you need for your vertical jump. Stair climbing works your feet, ankles, calves, hamstrings, and glutes. This is a simple exercise you can do anywhere. Take the stairs instead of the elevator or escalator.

Doing squats increases the muscles for your vertical jump. The squat is similar to the jumping set up. Toe raises and step-ups can strengthen the muscles you need to jump.

Lunges strengthen the muscles you use to jump as well. Jumping rope will help to develop the muscles for your vertical jump.

Toe raises also help strengthen your muscles for jumping. Lift up on your toes and hold for three seconds then come back down. To help strengthen your feet and legs you can do leg presses. Rotate your ankles back and forth to keep them limber. Flex your feet back and forth.

You can do these easy exercises at home to increase your vertical jump. Increasing the strength in all these muscles can help in daily activities such as climbing stairs for instance. It is also good for some sports like basketball and volleyball.
