The risk of heart disease can be reduced greatly with the help of a proper diet. Only exercise may not be as effective in combating heart disease. The right kinds of food items help reduce weight and accumulation of fat and heart diseases.
Include nuts: Nuts contain good fats that helps fight heart diseases. One ounce, approximately a handful of nuts are very good for your heart. The nuts include walnuts, almonds, and pistachios.
Restrict alcohol: Alcohol when consumed excessively is harmful for the heart. Red and white wine in small quantities is said to be good for the heart. Beer is especially harmful as it is high in calories and this increases your body mass index. It is best to limit your alcohol intake to a medium level of red or white wine.
Say no to processed foods: Processed and pre packed foods are loaded with chemicals. These chemicals affect the lining of blood vessels causing inflammation and ultimately heart disease. Ideally, a diet for those with heart diseases should contain a lot of fresh fruits and vegetables.
Include Whole Grains: White bread or pasta converts into fat immediately and hence it is better to include brown rice, whole grains, and wheat pasta rather than white food. Similarly whole grain muffins or fresh fruits are a better option as compared to baked items.
Sweet Dishes: Dark chocolate is said to be good for reducing your protein level in the body, which lessens the risk for heart disease. It is not necessary to avoid all sweets or sweet items completely.
MSG: Just like processed foods, MSG also should be avoided. A lot of packaged foods contain MSG so always check the food you buy for its contents. In addition to heart disease, it also causes obesity.
Omega 3 fatty acids: Omega 3 fatty acids help to prevent heart attacks and other heart related diseases. Different types of fishes like salmon, sardines, tuna, mackerel, and foods like soya, walnuts, and tofu are said to be rich sources for omega 3 fatty acids.
Grapes: Amongst the different fruits grapes ranks the highest for prevention of heart diseases.
