Career Enhancement Tips
February 10, 2009
Just acing the job interview and getting rave reviews from the HR or hiring manager is not enough to make an impression at work that is lasting and appreciable. In order to truly succeed in the highly competitive job environment in today’s corporate world, even the most qualified man needs to follow basic career enhancement tips to integrate professional balance at work with relation to colleagues.
Balancing equation with the senior management, learning newer skills to get ahead faster and still maintaining a personable attitude so no one pulls you down out of a sense of rivalry is very important.
Apply yourself diligently to following a standard courteous and helpful manner about you at work; avoid being too distant as it may be regarded as being stand-offish by colleagues, who can jeopardize your career by spreading gossip about you or making trouble at work in other ways. If you befriend your colleagues however, you can enjoy a healthier work relationship with co-workers too and also build up job satisfaction besides making it easy to ask for sharing workload occasionally.
It is a mistake to think all you need to do in order to succeed at your new job is to do your work competently and impress the boss. If you have failed to initiate anything beyond minimal courtesy with colleagues and are thus feeling the odd one out at group office gatherings, its time to apply some career enhancement tips and get ahead at work.
Begin with asking the right questions: e.g. direct queries about time management to a TL and seek how to handle a promotion without resentment from colleagues advice from your HR head. This way you build up a parallel friendly relation at work with seniors and different department staff and it’s easier to move up the company ladder when new opportunities come up – because these guys will be keen on recommending you when the time comes!
Also, mix with the right set of people at work: the movers and the shakers in your industry as these are the men who will influence your personality and probably encourage ambitious objectives and fuel your professional growth. Join the same gym, golf club or wrangle invites to parties they attend to foster relations with them to enhance your career.
