Buying Cologne

Most men take one of two commonly thought out routes when it comes to the prospect of buying cologne: either they will buy the same one they’ve been using since school or else, they’ll just shell out good money for what smelled good on them when they used the tester in the store!

Neither way is ideal for buying cologne, though as according to experts, the fragrance of the cologne must suit your skin also and the mistaken belief that many men have of buying one that smells good on their friend or going in for a brand that’s heavily advertised can have disastrous consequences on their grooming especially if their skin type is all wrong for the mix.

Many a time, men do not realize that the fragrance of particular cologne has much to do with the chemical reactions produced by a man’s body when he applies it e.g. oily skin guy trying on musk based cologne could also let off a stink when he perspires instead of smelling good.

So, it is important for men to find out their type of cologne based on their skin-types and stock up on these by testing them out at the departmental store and not cause delicate female noses to turn up because of a bad choice of colognes, however expensive and famous brands they be!

When picking cologne, men need to remember to pay close attention to the notes of each scent they can pick up: since most stores offer blotter cards free, test the spray on these and check out the top note i.e. your first impression of the fragrance and after 15 minutes, smell the card again for the middle note (the top note will have evaporated by now).

Then after about 40 minutes, smell the card again for the dry-down note of the scent, which is the true test of how the cologne can afford long-lasting fragrance. If satisfied completely by what hits your nose at this point, go for the bottle!
