pilatesPilates has taken the world by storm. Immediately becoming popular with a wide variety of people regardless of age, health, or fitness, Pilates is also good for anyone with joint problems or back problems.

What is Pilates?

The wonderful Pilates can be attributed to Joseph Pilates. He has used elements of Zen meditation, yoga, martial arts, as well as some other fitness methods to create and improve Pilates.

Pilates first gained attention from dancers because of the dance-like moves it incorporates. If you are looking to get a dancer’s body, then Pilates is the way to go.

Benefits of Pilates

Pilates has many benefits. Among the many physical benefits are improvements in posture and balance. Pilates also helps to strengthen and tone muscles, which helps those who are active in the long run.

Those suffering from back problems may also notice that their backaches would greatly reduce after doing Pilates for a couple of weeks. Flexibility and the range of movement one has, would also be increased.

Those who have recently suffered injuries may think that they should stay away from activities like Pilates but in fact, Pilates helps to heal injuries. Because of its low impact nature, Pilates is also good for older people as it does not make you feel exhausted and overworked.

Indirect benefits of doing Pilates regularly are increased levels of energy and reduced levels of stress and tension. It also helps to circulate blood more effectively in your body, which means that your organs, brain, and skin are healthier. Your skin is left glowing, and flesh injuries are benefited by the increased rate of blood flow.

Although Pilates is generally a very low impact workout, those who are professional athletes, or those who require a tougher workout can just increase the intensity of their routine.

As well as providing physical benefits, Pilates has many mental benefits too. When one exercises, endorphins, the hormones that suppress stress and induce a feeling of being happy, are released in to the system. If you are someone, who does not like conventional forms of exercise like aerobics should definitely think about switching to Pilates.
