Amitabh Bachchan Hospitalized On Birthday
October 22, 2008
The Big B of Bollywood and India’s favourite superstar, Amitabh Bachchan was hospitalized on his 67th birthday, an event that caused his millions of fans to go into panic mode, since it was related to an old health issue that may have turned serious for the veteran actor.
With a career spanning over 4 decades and hundreds of multi-star movie projects under his belt, Amitabh Bachchan at 67 still managed to make more than a few hearts skip in this nation of star-crazed fans who hang on to every news snippet about one of the most stylish and most photographed families of the Hindi film industry.
A global icon and inspiration for the 1970’s hero when he played the face of the struggling Indian youth, misunderstood and wronged against, Amitabh won the sobriquet of ‘angry young man’ for his movie Zanjeer, after which he grew from strength to strength in his next movies. He aced action movie roles, did rib-tickling comic portrayals, caused major sighing sessions among the PYTs when he essayed the romantic hero and generally entertained like no other actor before him had – or has come close to doing, except perhaps, King Khan – Shahrukh, in recent times.
With his career still going great guns and the Big B receiving at least 3 movie offers a day, according to inside sources, there was bound to be a lot of speculation regarding shooting and movie promotion delays that would naturally be caused due to his sudden hospitalization, especially with highly publicized projects like Alladin and Teen Patti coming up. He’d taken the day off from shooting for the latter movie to spend it with his children and grand-children, as he’d not been celebrating his birthday due to the demise of his mother, Teji Bachchan, in December 2007.
However, the versatile star (he’s played diverse roles in recent times, like that of a business tycoon, under-world don, photographer obsessed with a teenage girl, a moody chef and restaurant owner besides a good-hearted ghost, to name a few) with his trademark baritone and tall, intense persona looked peaky on his birthday and complained of abdominal pain. He was immediately rushed to Nanavati Hospital on the weekend where he was admitted for various X-rays of his stomach and chest; thereafter, he was taken to Lilavati Hospital in suburban Bandra for further treatment under family doctor, Jayant Barve.
Amitabh has since then been discharged from the hospital following treatment and is recuperating at home.
