Abhinav Bindra-Hunting the gold

He is the man who bagged the first gold medal in an individual event for his nation. 25 year old Abhinav Bindra is the first Indian to win a gold medal in 10mt air rifle shooting in Beijing Olympic games 2008, after Indian hockey team made it in 1980. Born on 28th September, 1982 in Dehra Dun Abhinav is a brightest star among the new breed of Indian shooters. He made a junior world record in Munich World Cup, 2001 and won bronze. Also participated in the 2002 Manchester Commonwealth games and won gold and awarded Rajib Gandhi Khel Ratna award in 2001.
Abhinav hails from an affluent Punjabi Khatri family. His parents Dr.Apjit Bindra and Babli Bindra are promoters of the Hi-tech Group of companies and has a turn over of Rs300 crores. He studied in the Dun School, Dehradun till 8th standard and then left for St. Stephens School, Chandigarh. He did his BBA from Colorado University. He started his journey as a shooter when he was only 15 years old. He was the youngest Indian participant in the 2001 Olympic Games. He won gold for the Men’s 10mt Air Rifle finale after scoring a whopping 700.5 points. This is the first gold since 28 years since 1980. Bindra has been awarded by various State governments and private organizations for his achievement.
Abhinav is known to be a cool guy and good student who didn’t fail o hit the bull’s eye and achieved what he wanted. He was a sports buff from the beginning and hence paved the way to his own glory. His patience and perseverance brought him what he could ever imagine of, as a shooter needs tremendous concentration and a calm head. His victory is undoubtedly and arguably the highest achievement ever in India’s sport history.
