Your Skin has the Winter Blues
Even on the smallest budget you can afford to have soft skin. Say goodbye to alligator roughness and say hello to new baby softness.
Get Heavy
You need to switch to a heavier lotion from the lighter one you used all summer. Make sure that water is the main ingredient to hydrate and moisturize your skin on impact. Look for additional ingredients such as honey and shea butter or petroleum jelly. These will help you to stay moisturized the entire day and prevent evaporation.
Take Time to Cool Off
Take a shower once a day in warm water. When showering in steaming hot water you not only wash away the dirt but the lipids that keep you hydrated. Also be sure to use a mild soap and not a harsh cleanser.
Scrub Away the Dead
When your skin is dehydrated it has a hard time getting rid of dead skin cells that should naturally just flake away. This can cause you to end with areas of pale patches. You should exfoliate one time per week with a gentle body scrub or even a shower puff. By doing this you will help new skin to grow and shine through.
Stop That Itch
If you feel the need to scratch, stop yourself. Grab your favorite lotion or if you have dry, red, puffiness grab some hydrocortisone. Put on a thick layer where it itches instead of scratching.
It’s a Go for Omega -3
Omega-3 fatty acids have more than just good health properties. They promote excellent hydration for your skin to help give you that healthy glow. This helps stop that nasty itch.
Get to Bed Early
Your pores open up while you sleep so make sure you slather on the lotion before climbing under the sheets. Even though your skin naturally repairs itself while you sleep, the lotion will keep you soft and smooth.
Last but Not Least
As you are getting dressed in the morning, put lotion on your feet and then your socks. Don’t forget to lotion up your hands before putting on your gloves. Your body heat creates a little mini sauna locking in moisture. And don’t forget your sunscreen. It may be winter but UVA rays are still there to get you.
