Your Guide To Healthy Teeth
From infancy to our senior years, healthy teeth are an essential part of our lives. Without them, we can suffer from a number of problems including gum disease, gingivitis, infections in the roots, plaque build up and the need for dentures, just to name a few.
So how do we go from having healthy new teeth as infants, to cavities and rotting teeth later in life? Although some of our dental health and condition of our teeth is genetic, a lot of it has to do with the way we care for our teeth and treat them. As children, we are constantly reminded by our mothers to brush our teeth. We seem to develop a silent hatred for the task, because we were always told to do so.
But as we move into our teens and early adult years, our mothers are not always reminding us to brush our teeth and floss regularly, and we sometimes tend to rebel by not taking care of them like we should.
Part of the reason we struggle with the health and care of our teeth is because for most of us going to the dentist is about as much fun as our yearly doctor exams. But, we need to really focus on proper care and maintenance outside of the dental chair, and our visits would not be nearly as painful.
Flossing on a regular basis is one of the key aspects to healthy teeth and gums. But for a lot of people, they simply do not take the time to do it. We all get lectured on it from the dentist, and have to suffer through the painful plucking at the dentist office, and the terrible scraping at our teeth. Most of this can be avoided with a little common sense and a little bit of additional maintenance on our part.
It is also important to watch your intake of sugary foods and soft drinks. These are two of the main culprits of cavities and dental problems. They attack our teeth, and every time after we indulge in them, we should be brushing our teeth. But lets face it, how many of us actually have the time and convenience to do this? The best thing to do is to limit your intake of these kinds of foods, and brush your teeth as soon as you can after indulging on these snacks.
Remember, your teeth say a lot about you and your hygiene, not to mention, keeping your teeth healthy can also have an impact on your overall health.
