winterskincareThe low humidity during winter can cause the skin to become dry, flaky, dull and irritated.  However, there are some basic steps that need to be followed to protect the skin during the harsh winter season.

Humidifiers

The air becomes very dry in the winter season.  Keeping humidifiers in the house will humidify the dry air and prevent skin from drying and becoming cracked and itchy.

Drink Plenty of Water

Harsh weather conditions make the skin dehydrated which feels flaky and dry.  To overcome this problem, it is important to drink plenty of water.  Drinking 8-10 glasses of water is recommended daily.  It is recommended to feed the skin as we feed the body.

Moisturizers

Oil based moisturizers protect the skin against moisture loss and retain the natural moisture. It is important to make sure that you use a rich moisturizer that is beneficial in times of low humidity.

Moisturizing helps to keep the skin hydrated and looking healthy. It is important to apply moisturizers on the skin after shower daily to seal in the moisture.

Eat Plenty of Fruits and Vegetables

Eating healthy fruits and vegetables gives proper nourishment to the body. Fruits and vegetables are fundamental to a healthy eating plan and the bright pigments in them are an indication of disease fighting capabilities. Therefore, a healthy diet is essential for healthy skin. Vitamins and minerals help keep the skin fresh and clean.

Other tips for healthy skin

Get some fresh air by going out daily. Wear gloves and protective long clothing to prevent skin from drying out.

Regular exercise is also necessary to keep the skin’s elasticity which prevents wrinkles. Exercise and other physical activities help to control body fat and prevent early age diseases. Exercise keeps the skin firm and gives a healthy look to the skin.

Use a good moisturizing and treatment shampoo for dry hair at least twice a week. It is also advisable not to dye your hair darker than your natural color. Lighter shades and tints of hair around the face give a natural glow to the skin

Fine lines around the eyes can be treated with eye creams. It is good to use anti-aging products to keep the skin looking young.
