Microdermabrasion does this without the need for anesthetic; it’s painless! It’s no wonder this procedure is quickly becoming the most popular cosmetic skin treatment.
Chemical peeling, plastic surgery, and Botox injections can be both pricey and painful. Microdermabrasion, also known as skin polishing, is easier to come by, and can accomplish similar results. In fact, you don’t even need to make a doctor’s appointment, because microdermabrasion is available at an increasing number of salons and spas.
The two most common types of this procedure are crystal or diamond microdermabrasion. The first type exfoliates the skin using tiny crystals. There are no chemicals necessary and you won’t have to worry about possible unsightly surgical scars. The aluminum oxide crystals are considered safe for use on the skin by doctors.
The second most common type uses a diamond-tipped head to exfoliate the skin. No crystals are in this one, so there’s zero chance of stray aluminum oxide getting into your eyes. However, some believe this form isn’t entirely safe.
Microdermabrasion can even be done in your very own home. Home kits provide a crystal cream that is gently massaged into the skin with your hand or an included wand or applicator. This is milder and cheaper than getting the procedure done at a spa and it only takes a few minutes.
This skin procedure helps rejuvenate tired-looking skin. It can help prevent and control wrinkles, and reduces the size of dilated pores. It has no known side effects and never uses harsh chemicals. It’s not for everyone, though. People who have taken Accutane within twelve months should not get microdermabrasion. Avoid it if you’re pregnant, too, as hormonal changes during pregnancy can prevent the effects of this procedure from showing completely.
Crystals used in the microdermabrasion procedure should be at least 99 percent pure aluminum oxide, and the instruments must be sanitized to prevent the spread of harmful bacteria.
