Weight loss program for women after pregnancy
February 19, 2009
Pregnancy is the most beautiful time of any woman’s life. The best thing about it is that at least for this period no one tells you to cut down your meals or portions. You eat all you want. But this heavenly phase does not last forever. It does come to an end and when it does, you are left with all that baby fat.
Most women tend to welcome this additional fat and seem to accept it as a part of their life. However, you do not need to do so. You can get back into your former shape even after you’ve had a baby. After all, the baby will not mind a fabulous looking mother.
The article discusses some tips that you can follow to achieve weight loss after your pregnancy.
Let your body recover
It is important that you allow your body to recover from the shock of childbirth. Childbirth might be happening all the time, but you should remember that for your body it is a crucial time.
You do not need to embark upon some diet program as soon as you return from the delivery room. Give your body some rest and let it recover. Remember that a recovered body will respond better to your diet efforts, whereas if you will try to exercise without recovery then you might risk injuries.
Allow a period of at least three months after birth before you start any dieting or exercising.
Breast feed to lose weight
This is a fact. While it may not be sufficient to shed all of the extra pounds, it does help. The fact is that fat is stored in your body during pregnancy for later use when you start to breast feed. The stored fat is used to produce milk. Therefore, when you breast feed, you use the milk, more milk is produced, and thus more fat is used up.
Therefore, it is important that you have low fat foods, but not completely fat free foods. You can keep junk food out of sight and add nutrition to your food.
Do not go for any fad diets
It is very important that you take care of your health because your health will directly affect your baby’s health. All fad diets do not aim at causing a healthy weight loss and hence are a strict no-no for any new mother.
Exercise regularly
Exercise will do more than causing you to lose weight. It will help to keep your spirits high, improve your confidence and lessen the postpartum depression.
